Piezoelectric sensors for dynamic pressure measurement

Why measure dynamic pressure with piezoelectric sensors?

Measure dynamic pressure with very fast pressure rise time

Due to their high natural frequencies, piezoelectric pressure sensors can be used for a variety of applications where dynamic pressures with very fast pressure rise times of up to 1µs need to be measured. The following list shows a few of these applications:

  • Airbag components
  • Pyrotechnical devices
  • Energetic materials in closed vessels
  • Blast waves, shock tubes, and shockwave physics
  • Industrial safety applications
  • Water hammer effects

Piezoelectric sensors perform during long-term dynamic pressure measurement of the smallest pressure pulsations with the excellent signal-to-noise ratio.

Measure very small pressure changes

In addition, piezoelectric pressure sensors are the first choice for the measurement of very small pressure changes (pressure pulsations) at high static pressure levels. These enable the long-term measurement of very small pressure pulsations with high resolution and excellent signal-to-noise ratio for a frequency range of over 100 kHz. The following list shows a few of these applications:

  • Qualification of water turbine and ship propeller models
  • NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) related to HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) compressors
  • Combustion instabilities in gas turbines  and rocket engines
