Next generation transient recorder for modular high-speed signal acquisition

Transient recorder 2529A with precise high bandwidth signal conditioning and data acquisition, all combined into one single modular device.

Fast and accurate sensors require high-level measuring chain components to achieve maximum performance. Transient recorders from Kistler need powerful components along the measuring chain to ensure the high expected level of performance. Kistler’s transient recorders are aimed at precise high bandwidth signal conditioning and data acquisition, all combined into one single modular device. The high level of integration optimizes efficiency and reduces measurement uncertainty in the measurement chain. The scalable and modular solution can be tailored to a wide array of applications from highly efficient quality control in production to elaborate R&D tasks. The next generation transient recorder will become available this year and bring accuracy and scalability to a new level.

Charge amplifier

The 2529A transient recorder is equipped with integrated charge amplifiers aimed at high bandwidth signals. The new design allows accurate signal conditioning up to 500 kHz. While the charge amplifier is of a quasi-static design, a potent drift compensation has been integrated effectively removing amplifier drift. The broad selection of charge input ranges helps connect a wide array of sensor types for all measurands.

  • Full scale charge input ranges from ±120 to ±100’000 pC
  • (-3dB) upper cut-off frequency of >500 kHz
  • (-3dB) lower cut-off frequency <0.00001 kHz
  • Powerful drift compensation

Voltage conditioner

With a bandwidth of up to 10 MHz voltage signals of connected sensors and peripherals can be measured precisely and quickly. To adapt to all types of input signals the coupling can be selected from the software for AC, DC and IEPE coupling. The constant supply current of the IEPE amplifier can be set from 4 to 20 mA to adjust for cable length and capacity, making sure you always get the full bandwidth of your sensor.

  • Coupling: AC, DC, IEPE
  • Full scale input ranges from ±0.1 to ±25 V
  • Bandwidth up to 10 MHz
  • IEPE supply current of 4-20 mA
  • Slew rate of 50 ns

Digital I/O

To make integration of the transient recorder into your measurement setup as easy as possible, a selection of BNC connectors on the backplane simplifies the setup. Our trigger-in connector can detect opening and closing of electrical circuits or TTL signals. Alternatively the measurement can be triggered based on any analogue input channel. To interface to low-impedance inputs of other hardware, such as high speed cameras, two separately driven trigger-out connectors are available. The armed out connector can be used to indicate readiness for measurement.

  • Dedicated trigger in
  • Trigger out (2x)
  • Armed out

Data acquisition

To, complete the high bandwidth signal conditioning of the transient recorder, the integrated DAQ is designed to perform at highest sampling rates. The simultaneous sampling of up to 16 channels and potential for PTP-synchronization even satisfies challenging R&D applications.

  • 16 bit resolution
  • 20 MS/s/Ch
