The Lineas Compact Weigh In Motion sensors (Type 9196A) are force sensors with quartz elements specially designed for measuring wheel and axle loads of road vehicles. The sensors are installed in the road pavement and provide highly accurate measurement signals. When force is applied to the sensors, the quartz elements yield an electrical charge signal proportional to the applied force. The Lineas Compact sensors require connection to an external charge amplifier (Type 5163A, included in Weigh In Motion Data Loggers Type 5204A). The Weigh In Motion Data Loggers convert the electric charge signals into wheel, axle and gross vehicle weight and derive vehicle classification information.
